I found them on the beach at the edge of the ocean,
stark in the force of their daring and execution.
These were not created by children.
I saw a woman with a clipboard and asked her,
“What is this?”
“We had a corporate leadership retreat,”
she said as she walked toward her car.
Sculpted by the ambitious imaginations of adults
schooled all their lives to compete, win
and make their mark on the world,
the sand castles silently faced the ocean in abandoned grandiosity,
as foghorns announced
the inevitable swelling of the afternoon tide toward shore.
